How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture activates the body's normal mechanism to heal the body.  Traditional acupuncture treatments are based on influencing the flow of qi or energy through the organs and vessels in the body.  The use of acupuncture will support the correct flow of qi, remove blockages in the flow of qi that can cause illness and pain as well as bring harmony to imbalances of qi.

What happens when you go to an appointment?

Patients complete a history form.  The acupuncturist asks questions about your illness or problems as well as your general state of health.  She takes your pulse and looks at your tongue.  She does a physical examination.  She will determine your diagnosis and treatment plan using Traditional Chinese Medicine.  Sterile needles are inserted for 15 to 45 minutes.

What other techniques might be used?

Cupping, using glass or plastic cups to create a vacuum over an area, might be employed to warm and increase circulation.

Acupressure is used to stimulate acupuncture points without needles.

Does insurance cover acupuncture?

Many insurances do cover acupuncture.  We accept most insurances.  Acupuncture is also eligible for reimbursement from medical saving plans at work.

"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but
will interest patients in the care of the human frame,
in diet and the cause and prevention of disease."
